Hillclimber

  • Your challenge is to climb a slippery board at the highest angle in class.
  • Your robot back wheels must pass the 1 meter line on the board to qualify as conquering the angle you have attempted.
  • The record angle is 52 degrees.
  • Start at 30 degrees.
  • Thinking about, designing, testing and redesigning your hillclimberbot considering the following factors is the way to go...
    • traction: the wheels have to grip
    • power: the batteries need to be fully charged to win
      • (Charge them at the end of the day - ready for next class, don't wait till they are empty)
    • stability: if the gears fall apart or your hillclimberbot does then it will never make it
    • torque: use clever gearing to use the power in your batteries efficiently and effectively
    • research: find out what has worked for other group -
      • in your class.. (look around.. talk to others)
      • and in past years.. (look on Subjects/Year9/Technology/Robotics/Photos/Hillclimberbot)
  • Your grade is based on
    • conquering angles
      • the steeper the angle the higher the grade
      • you need to reach 40 degrees to pass
    • teamwork
    • understanding
    • your personal contribution
  • You can modify your tankbot design by
    • adding gears
    • changing wheels
  • Or you can build something completely new
